Charley is Great

I am thoroughly enjoying Charley in First Grave on the Right.  She is a dynamic character.

First Grave on the Right- Chapters 5-8
   Summary:
Charley sees her father and step-mother and we get some information about the strained relationship Charley has with her step-mom, Denise.  Garrett confronts Charley and asks some questions to make her think that he may be coming around to believing some of her abilities.  Elizabeth tells Charley that Garrett has the hots for her and she shouldn't be so hard on him.  Charley talks to Elizabeth, Jason, and Patrick about ways to give their family members some closure.  A shadowy figure appears in Charley's office, pushes Garrett, and calls Charley "Dutch", a name Reyes called her when they first met, then disappears.  Uncle Bob says there was another person killed, Jason identifies the man as an informant he met with before he was killed.  The lawyers report all of this seems to be related to a case they were working on, defending Mark Weir on murder charges.  They tell Charley there is information in their office she should get and that the informant told Jason there was evidence to prove Mark's innocence at a warehouse.  The lawyers tell Charley that they could see Reyes when he was in her office and give her a clue about where to find him.  Charley goes to see Mark Weir in prison and gets some information about his case.  He is hopeful she will be able to help prove his innocence.  Cookie finds some information on Reyes.  Charley goes to see Rocket, a man who knows when anyone dies.  She asks Rocket about some people connected to the case, and asks him about Reyes.  Rocket says some mysterious things about Reyes.  Charley goes to the lawyers' office and gets files; she meets up with Garrett there.  They go together to the warehouse to meet Uncle Bob for a stakeout.  Charley gets caught trying to snoop around the warehouse.

Mercy Blade- Chapters 1-3
   Summary:
Jane is at her apartment in North Carolina with her new boyfriend Rick to clean the place out; she is moving to New Orleans temporarily.  Jane sees a report on TV about a man, Kemnebi, revealing the existence of weres; he shifts into a leopard.  This report is followed by interview with a were-lion and a werewolf.  Jane worries about the secrets her and Rick have to keep from each other because of their jobs.  She figures he must be working undercover with weres based on some of the comments he makes.  Jane worries about Rick finding out what she really is.  Jane and Rick both get called back to New Orleans for work.  The wolves make claims against Leo, the vampire Master of New Orleans and Jane's current boss, and Leo wants Jane to investigate supposed proof they have of his wrongdoing.  Leo gives Jane another assignment.  Jane heads out to a bar, Booger's Scoot, to meet with someone for Leo.  Jane meets a mysterious man in the parking lot who questions why Jane's there and what message she is supposed to be delivering; she refuses to talk to him.  Jane meets Booger and says Leo sent her; she is immediately surrounded by werewolves.  Roul, the alpha, doesn't like Jane being Leo's messenger.  She delivers Leo's message of "get out of town" and the werewolves attack.  A mystery man steps in to try to stop the fight, when that doesn't work he fights with Jane against the wolves.
