Follow your heart or follow your head? This is the age-old question that Drake and Sierra have to reconcile in LILAC TEMPTRESS.
It is instant attraction for Drake McCalister when he sees Sierra Maudet singing at a bar while visiting a small Louisiana town. Drake is only in town for a brief visit to settle some business with the bar owner, who also happens to be Sierra's guardian. While Drake can't exactly explain or rationalize the attraction, he knows he cannot leave Sierra behind when his business is concluded.
Sierra and her brother Kyle have not had an easy life and Sierra has always dreamt of leaving her small hometown. When Drake offers her the chance to start a new life in New Orleans, she jumps at the opportunity, taking Kyle with her. When they reach New Orleans, Sierra realizes her plans might not be easily accomplished and she may be in danger of losing her heart to the already engaged Drake.
I enjoyed the plot of this book very much and most of the characters, most of the time. I enjoyed all of the plot twists and side stories, especially the relationship between Kyle and Drake's sister, Rosaline. I enjoyed watching Sierra change and grow and come to terms with her feelings and deal with the reality of her situation. Rosaline was a fun character to read and I enjoyed her spirited personality very much. The only character I struggled with was Drake. While the author explained his choices and the consequences of choosing his heart over his head, I did not feel that the he struggled enough internally with his decision. I felt like he always knew what his decision was going to be and it took someone else's actions, not his own, to point him in a different direction.
All's well that ends well and there is love in the end for multiple people! This was a very fun story to read.
