So, I'm almost done with Phantom Evil and I have no idea who-dun-it. This is another aspect of Heather Graham's writing that I enjoy. It is not obvious who the bad guy is and it seems that everyone has secrets and possible motives.
The team is focusing on the people surrounding Senator Holloway- his assistant Martin DuPre, his secretary Lisa Drummond, his bodyguard Blake Conroy, and his chauffeur Grable Haines. There are also two local groups that are opposed to Senator Holloway, the Aryans and The Church of Christ Arisen. Surprising information keeps surfacing about the members of the senator's staff and their activities outside of work. But no one knows if the staff are truly loyal to the senator or not. Angela is seeing the ghosts of two children who were victim to Newton, the serial killer who once lived in the house; the little boy cautions her. Whitney and Will set up recording equipment throughout the house. Angela interviews the senator and believes he is grieving his wife. The senator says he doesn't believe in ghosts, but wants to know if it was a ghost responsible for Regina's death. Jackson meets with the senator's staff who all have good things to say about the senator and each other; he decides he needs to interview them each alone. Jackson and Angela determine that Regina's death was definitely not a suicide. Whitney's grandmother gives them some information that, for the first time, put Senator Holloway in a not-so-perfect light. Jake goes into The Church of Christ Arisen and comes out with only a small amount of information. The cameras catch some strange shadows in the basement of the house and Angela has a strange experience when she goes to investigate. Jackson meets with Blake and the senator one-on-one, and meets Lisa for the first time; he senses some tension. Jake talks to Grable and learns a bit about his past and gets a tip on Martin. Angela and Jackson investigate Martin and discover things that definitely make him suspect. Jake and Jenna attend an Aryans meeting to see what they can discover; they see a familiar face. The team works to verify alibis for the senator's staff for the time Regina was killed. Whitney and Angela go check out a museum display that offers up some helpful information about the house and Newton. The team continues to investigate the people, the house, the deaths, the ghosts; they formulate theories about what happened to Regina. Angela discovers the identity of one of the ghosts she has been seeing, and it was not one of Newton's victims. The team makes a discovery and confronts Blake and Lisa; they have explanations for their odd behaviors. They both admit to telling some lies previously, but explain that it had to do with the senator. Jackson and Angela get enough information for the police to get a search warrant for The Church of Christ Arisen.
