In HER HUSBAND’S LOVER we see that sometimes the “perfect” relationship needs a third person to make it a “real” relationship.
Emma and Lyle were perfect for each other and entered into their marriage happily. Emma has a strong aversion to physical contact and Lyle prefers members of the same sex in his bed. They could meet society’s marriage expectations without the fear of harming one another or of having their “oddities” discovered. But then Emma meets the first man who she has ever been attracted to enough to want to touch- Robert, Lord Darleston. Unfortunately, Robert is one of Lyle’s past lovers and they are both quite happy to be reunited. But while Robert is happy to have resumed his relationship with Lyle, he is also drawn to Emma. Between the multiple attractions, the aversion to touch, the risk of discovery, and the jealousy, the three of them explore a new and exciting relationship.
This is the 5th book in the Georgian Rakehell’s Series and while reading the first 4 was not necessary, the story probably would’ve been enhanced by reading book #4. Almost immediately I felt like I was missing some important information about one of the main characters; by the end I was able to piece it all together. The two elements of this story that really made it stand out from other ménage stories are Emma’s aversion to touch and Lyle’s aversion to women. There were lots of wonderful emotions swirling throughout this story. There was no hope of a balanced relationship happening without the exploration and overcoming of many obstacles. The best part for me was not the forming of the ménage relationship but the changes and growth of the relationship between Emma and Lyle. With the introduction of Robert into their relationship these two had to reevaluate their marriage, their friendship, and their feelings for one another. This was an emotional and steamy story. I do plan on reading others in this series.
