BEYOND EDEN is a tale of desire, temptation, and discovering the pleasures of opening up your heart and mind to what you really want.
Eve and Paul were high school sweethearts who were separated by too many obstacles: Eve’s desire to leave her hometown for college, Paul’s desire to please his father, and just different life goals. Eve returns ten years after leaving for college and finds that Paul has set accomplished all of the successes he was striving for- which means she doesn’t fit into his life. But Paul and Eve’s best friend from high school, Danny, does have room for Eve in his life. What Eve doesn’t know is that a new type of relationship has formed between Danny and Paul while she’s been away. With all of the lies and cheating it appears that everyone might end up alone, heartbroken, and miserable.
This was a fascinating and intriguing story that kept me hooked from start to finish. The dynamics of the character’s personalities and relationships was fantastic. The author did a fantastic job portraying the struggle of doing what is expected of you versus doing what is going to make you happy. She also magnificently highlights the struggles of living a lifestyle that is outside of society’s norms. There is no quick and easy happily ever after for these characters; they have to hurt and suffer to reach any sort of fulfillment. The range of emotions, the constant challenges, and the internal struggles made the plot fuller and richer and made me care more about what happened to the characters. This was a great book.
